lunch at Schuler’s

Another quick post from our Marshall visit…

Yesterday afternoon, grandma took us to Schuler’s for lunch. The restaurant has been around in one form or another since 1909. They’re the makers of the famous Schuler’s Bar-Scheeze.

There were only a couple vegan options, so Mother and I had the exact same meal. We started with the pumpkin soup – our waitress told us all of the soups du jour are vegan (not the other every-day soups, though). It was very creamy. I’m not sure what else was in it besides the celery I could taste and bits of carrots I could see, but it was very tasty.

We both ordered the Grilled Vegetable Wrap, made vegan by omitting the cheese. They came with freshly fried chips. Actually, the waitress didn’t ask if we wanted fries or chips and I really wanted fries…I wonder if they aren’t vegan. I’m really hungry for fries now.

The sandwich, although not super filling, was great – filled with portobello mushroom, bell pepper, zucchini, eggplant, onion, romaine lettuce, and a thin layer of hummus spread on the naan bread to hold everything in place.

Maybe I’ll go back and see about those fries. Plus, I hear they have free popcorn in the pub…!
