Christ is Risen!

1 Resurrection Icon
Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen! Christos Anesti! Alithos Anesti! Al-Mesih Qam! Haqqan Qam!

Here are just a few highlights from Holy Week. I wish I could’ve gotten pictures of all my favorite things, but I mostly made videos. I’ll probably post a couple here later.

Presanctified Liturgy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Some of my favorite music.

Making Artoklasia bread with Fr. R for Holy Saturday’s Liturgy of St. Basil (and yes, it is vegan…and delicious!). I like this service because you’re already beginning to celebrate the Resurrection.

Spending Pascha with my favorite little guy! Seen here prostrating before the epitaphios.

And spending time with friends at the chanters stand….

My favorite Old Testament reading, “the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music. . .” Love it.

Baking my favorite cake with which to break the fast – a Chocolate SoCo cake with beer and olive oil in it. Recipe coming soon.

Finally putting my 100+ year old laban pot to use. I hope my great-grandmother would approve of me using it for a vegan cashew spread : )

Filling my Pascha basket with every good thing – mostly for me, with some candy for the kids.

I mean EVERY good thing – I even stopped at Little Africa so I could put a takeout box in there!

Celebrating a super-late night Liturgy after singing Christ is Risen.

Other favorites that I don’t have pictures of…taking multiple little taper candles for myself and my family so we could keep our flame for the entire Liturgy. A bunch of friends shouting “Embittered!” during the Paschal Homily of St. John Chrysostom. Having such a lovely time at the Pascha celebration that I forgot to take pictures. Getting home at 4:30am, wide awake, and looking at pictures and watching videos of the past week until 6:00am!

Wishing a Blessed Pascha to all of you who are celebrating today!

  1. Truly He is risen! Thanks for sharing. I have a list too. Great Lent and Holy Week are such hauntingly beautiful things. I absolutely love the way the church moves us through this season and into the life of Christ’s resurrection.
