b-b-b-beet burger at Marie’s

So last week I went to Marie’s for Vegan Dog Day, of course. I saved the second hotdog for my lunch Thursday, but I ended up eating it for breakfast so I could go back to Marie’s for lunch again. Why?

Because beet burger, that’s why.

With lentil soup. I really love their soups. It tasted a little lemony, like Syrian lentil soup, and it had chunks of zucchini in it, and big pieces of onion.

The burger, like pretty much everything on the menu, was huge. It featured gingered carrot & kale slaw with green curry peanut sauce. I would’ve never thought to put peanut sauce on a beet burger, but it was delicious. It also had a good dose of the standard garlic vegenaise, as seen below.

The burger wasn’t the kind that’s just a fat slice of marinated beet. I’m not sure what was in it, but something gave it a great crunchy texture on the outside. My goodness. I need to try making some of these things at home, but on the other hand, I want to support Marie’s. But I’m going to go broke. But it’s so worth it.

  1. It’s all about beets tonight! 🙂
I just picked up the book Veggie Burgers Every Which Way and I’ve been dying to try out the beet burger! I’ve never had one – yours looks amazing.

    • It was SO good! I’ve been meaning to try a more basic beet burger, but I have to confess to being a little lazy when it comes to working with fresh beets. I better try it now, though! We can compare recipes.

  2. Yes they can, hopefully the little critter that’s been helping itself to our veggies won’t eat them all! I found this recipe from the Post Punk Kitchen, YUM. http://www.theppk.com/2012/02/quarter-pounder-beet-burger/ And here’s another http://www.yummymummykitchen.com/2013/04/beet-burger-recipe.html Let me know which one you want to do, or if you’d like to do both I’ll be sure to have the rice ready and I’ll soak, sprout and cook up a pot of beans. We have a ton of fresh basil up at the garden. . . . .
