crispy nori snack

Last night around midnight I decided I was hungry, and also felt like doing a lot of baking and cooking. I guess that’s what I get for trying to get away with having oatmeal for dinner. So. I found This Toasted Nori Recipe from theKitchn and decided to bake a few sheets.

I didn’t have wasabi, so I figured I’d just season it with garlic and onion powder instead. And of course SALT. Preheat your oven to 250.

Fold a sheet of toasted nori in half,

then unfold, and lightly brush one half with water. Sprinkle that half with your seasonings,

then fold it back over. Press it closed, and lightly brush the top with water.

The original recipe says to cut it into strips with a sharp knife. Maybe mine was not sharp enough because it didn’t work well at all, so…I got out my trusty food scissors. Cut into 6 strips.

Arrange the strips on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake 10 to 13 minutes at 250, until darkened, dry to the touch, and brittle.

Apparently you’re supposed to transfer them to a cooling rack to let them “finish crisping,” but instead…

I kind of…

ate them. And no, they were not the crispiest things, maybe they should’ve gone on the rack. But they were really good! Next time I will probably brush them with soy sauce-seasoned water instead of sprinkling them with salt, but I was still pleased with the flavor.
Apparently some people don’t eat them all at once, and those people store the crisps in an airtight container.

Tonight or tomorrow I will post the pasta I cooked while making these nori snacks. I also baked a batch of THESE oatmeal cookies, but I won’t bore you by posting them again. They are pretty good, though, if you want to try them 🙂

  1. I am going to try this with some diluted korean hot pepper paste and sesame seeds! I buy Seaweed Brittle with Sesame Seeds Hot & Spicy. Wonder if it will come out as good as the one that i buy. Must try!
