Bright Monday: Yesterdog

Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!

Well, now that Lent is over and we are in Bright Week, that means a whole week without any fasting at all. Z is visiting from Austin and since she is not a vegan, she was in the mood for a famous Yesterdog Cheddardog. Eating junk food is kinda what I do to break the fast, so I was up for it. I’ll give you a little tour.

This is behind the counter where the food is ordered (there I am in the mirror, with my throwback Paschal beehive!)

Also in the front area across from the register, you can sit at the counter and eat…

while checking out pictures of Yesterdog fans wearing Yesterdog t-shirts around the city, country, and THE WORLD mwahaha /evil laugh. I love looking at these pictures. Especially because…

I know someone in one of the pictures. I’m sure some of you will recognize her 🙂

There are booths in the back and it’s fun looking at all the cool stuff, but to be honest, it smelled a little swampy today. That has never happened before and hopefully it never will again, but there’s plenty of seating, so we found another spot.

This is the area between the front and back rooms. Besides these little tables, there are a couple more booths on one side. That is where we sat.

So, on to the food.

Is this not the cutest little presvy you’ve ever seen??! Z had a couple cheddardogs, I got 2 veggie dogs without cheese.

Let me explain something about the veggie dogs, though. They aren’t fake hotdogs, they are actually just buns filled with sauerkraut, pickles, and onions, and topped with mustard (the menu also says ketchup, but I’ve never had one with ketchup). And it’s also the same price as a krautdog which is basically the same thing with a hotdog in it. I really don’t think it’s fair, but life isn’t fair, and I only go a couple times a year and I just really like it there. I always add a bag of plain chips and stuff the chips in the bun. I don’t usually get pop since I think it’s really gross, but for some reason today I decided to for it. I’ve been chugging water since I got home, but ya know, it actually tasted really good with the chips and “hotdog”.

Definitely a place to check out if you’re in Grand Rapids. I hear the food tastes especially good after a night at the bar, and 2 dogs, chips, and a drink will set you back less than $8.

    • Thank you, you too! Yesterdog is an iconic Grand Rapids restaurant even though it’s kind of a dive – it’s a loveable dive! You must see it if you visit Grand Rapids.
